ABORTO E DIREITOS REPRODUTIVOS: a atuação de grupos “pró-vida” no Brasil e nos Estados Unidos

Abstract

In the debate over reproductive justice and access to abortion, conservative groups known as “pro-life” take a stand against legalization, arguing in favor of protecting life from conception based on religious and ethical grounds. In this sense, the main objective of this research is to carry out a comparative analysis between two of the main “pro-life” organizations: the National Association of Evangelical Jurists (ANAJURE), in Brazil, and the National Committee for the Right to Life (NRLC), in the United States. Initially, an overview of anti-abortion policies in both countries is presented, contextualizing the historical evolution and the main discussions on reproductive rights. Next, we analyze the performance of "pro-life" groups and the strategies adopted by each one to influence public policies and legislation according to conservative values in their respective countries. Finally, we present a comparative analysis of the performance of ANAJURE and NRLC in the implementation of anti-abortion strategies during the administrations of Donald Trump in the United States and Jair Bolsonaro in Brazil. The methodological procedure includes the analysis of primary sources (reports, laws, and documents) and secondary sources (articles, lectures, dissertations, and theses), the use of the QDA Miner software for document analysis, and the application of the Process Tracing method to identify the supporters of the two groups. We work with the hypothesis that both ANAJURE and NRLC are part of the global anti-gender alliance to restrict women's rights, especially in the context of reproductive rights.
