| Summary: | A proposta deste trabalho é analisar a presença de metáforas ao longo da obra The Bell Jar, escrita por Sylvia Plath, bem como as traduções de Maria Luíza Nogueira e Ana Guadalupe. Na análise das traduções, é utilizada a sistematização das traduções de metáforas proposta na teoria descritivista de van den Broeck, como base para uma reflexão quanto às escolhas e aos resultados no projeto tradutório, além de ser usado o conceito de Lakoff e Johnson para definir metáfora. A partir disso, é possível perceber, ao final do trabalho, as diversas possibilidades de traduzir uma metáfora, tendo em mente a conservação do teor compreendido na leitura do original. |
| Abstract: | The purpose of this research is to analyze the presence of metaphors throughout the novel The Bell Jar, written by Sylvia Plath, as well as the translations done by Maria Luíza Nogueira and Ana Guadalupe. In the analysis of the translations, the systematization of metaphor translations proposed in van den Broeck's descriptivist theory is used as a basis for investigating the choices and results in the translation project, as well as the definition of metaphor proposed by Lakoff and Johnson. It is possible to perceive, at the end of the work, the various possibilities of translating a metaphor, keeping in mind the maintenance of the content understood by reading the original text. |
