Figurações do Diabo na Divina Comédia, de Dante Alighieri e de Satã em Paraíso Perdido, de John Milton

Abstract

It is intended to analyze the figurations of the Devil in Dante Alighieri’s Divine Comedy and John Milton’s Paradise Lost. The poems will be analyzed taking into account the long duration of the Rhetorical Institution, with special attention to the poetic technique of the ekphrasis, present in Dante’s Hell and throughout the mentioned Miltonian work. To that, the work proposes comparisons between the works from the study of the demonic figuration’s ekphrasis and the mapping of common places employed in the ecfrasic descriptions of the Devil and Hell in order to value the rhetoric and poetic codes mobilized by each poet, as well as the topos from the horacian ut pictura poesis, considering the verisimilitude and decorum which it is convenient on each gender. In this sense, it is intended to work the possible relations between the diabolical historicity of the figurations and the way how the imagery representations of them compose the imaginary of each period.
