Presença, ausência e reconstrução: a memória-casa no tempo

Abstract

The present work in Visual Arts investigates the relationships between memory, everyday objects, and domestic space based on the notion of house-memory. The research begins with the author's engagement with a house located on a rural property in the interior of the state of São Paulo, where the coexistence with its residents and with the objects of the rural environment prompted reflections on the ways in which these elements relate to time, permanence, and wear. The objective is to develop a poetic investigation that articulates photography, objects, and installation as means of visual elaboration of these relationships, brought together in the exhibition field entitled Presence, Absence and Reconstruction: the house-memory in time. The research adopts a qualitative approach based on artistic practice as an investigative method, combining the survey of personal archives, photographic records, conversations with the residents of the place, and experimentation with alternative photographic processes and installation. As artistic procedures, works were developed using cyanotype on glass, object-installations, and video installation. The work explores the materiality of the image, the symbolic dimension of objects, and the relationship between presence and disappearance of memory, in constant reconstruction.
