O pacto global para migração segura, ordenada e regular e a nova identidade nacional brasileira sob o governo Bolsonaro

Abstract

This article analyzes how Brazil's withdrawal from the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly, and Regular Migration under the Bolsonaro administration reflects the influence of the new right and the defense of a rigid concept of national sovereignty. The central argument of the article is that Brazil's withdrawal from the Global Compact for Migration under the Bolsonaro government represents not only a policy of national sovereignty defense but also an attempt to construct a new national identity aligned with the ideology of the new right, characterized by exclusion and nationalism. The main objective is to investigate how this decision was used to build a new national identity aligned with ultraconservative ideology, marked by nationalism and exclusion. In addition to repositioning Brazil on the international stage alongside countries with anti-immigration policies, this choice internally reinforced narratives of protection against external "threats" and restricted international cooperation. Using a qualitative methodology, this study relies on documentary analysis of government speeches, legislation, and journalistic articles to investigate how the withdrawal from the Compact and subsequent policies contribute to the construction of a new national identity characterized by exclusion and the promotion of nationalist principles.
