Assistente Social na UTI e a demanda nos atendimentos institucionais dos usuários vítimas de acidentes automobilístico: perfil do paciente

Abstract

This Residency Completion Project aimed to analyze the socioeconomic profile of patients injured in car accidents admitted to the Adult Intensive Care Unit of the University Hospital of the Federal University of Uberlândia (HC - UFU), as well as to identify the main social demands and interventions carried out by social services in this context. The research was developed through the analysis of 20 social records. The results showed that the majority of the research participants were adult patients, aged 19 to 39 years and 40 years or older. A predominance of workers with formal employment and INSS (Brazilian Social Security Institute) contributors was observed, although adolescents and young people of school age were also among the victims. A significant number of patients from municipalities in the region were observed, reinforcing the role of HC-UFU as a tertiary referral center for highly complex cases. All patients analyzed for the research had a family support network, and some were followed by the intersectoral health network, facilitating communication and continuity of care. The main interventions of the Social Service included welcoming family members, providing guidance on visiting hours, referrals to a Support House, mediating communication between the team and the family, and providing guidance on social security benefits. Guidance was also provided on necessary documentation for post-death procedures and funeral services, when necessary. It is concluded that the practice of the Social Worker in the ICU is fundamental for guaranteeing rights and for intersectoral articulation aimed at comprehensive health care. The study highlights the main social demands in the Adult Intensive Care Unit environment, emphasizing the importance of a critical and committed professional approach to providing qualified and assertive care in response to these demands.
