Espaço e memória em narrativas de Daniel Munduruku

Abstract

Over the last few decades, Indigenous male and female authors have occupied significant spaces in the Brazilian cultural system, so literature works by Indigenous peoples have become noticeable and respected. Literature works by the Indigenous Daniel Munduruku, considered one of the pioneers of contemporary Brazilian Indigenous literature, have excelled in this context. He has become one of the guardians of Indigenous peoples' memories, weaving threads to complement the great “web” of ancestral stories. The memories obtain structure and support in spaces of the villages, where an Indigenous cosmic vision is sown and harvested. In this way, the purpose of this work is to analyse the relationship between spaces and memorys in the Daniel Munduruku´s stories. For the analysis, two of his works were chosen: Meu Vô Apolinário: Um mergulho no rio da (minha) memória (2005) and Parece que foi ontem –Kapusu aco’i juk (2006). It was found that the spaces in the stories appear on affective and subjective levels, based on the protagonists' memories and other characters. For this research, a theoretical and critical background was searched based on readings of Indigenous and non-Indigenous studies, adopting the decolonial perspective. It was considered important to analyse the illustrations in harmony with the verbal text of Daniel Munduruku´s works. Therefore, it was understood that the reading of those literature works allows a deeper comprehension of cultures and Indigenous individuals in the national context. It is believed that this thesis might train readers for new perspectives about Brazilian Indigenous peoples, by defending the space as an element of permanence of the ancestral memories in the affective relationship that these peoples have with nature and ancestry.
