Sentimento de pertencimento através da arte urbana

Abstract

This study analyzes how urban arts influence the construction of a sense of belonging in the cities of Uberlândia (Brazil) and Santiago (Chile). Its main objective is to understand how these artistic expressions contribute to the creation of bonds between individuals and the sense of belonging to urban space. The research was conducted through a qualitative and comparative approach, based on the works of Emília Mendes (2010, 2013), who advocates for studying images with the same rigor as texts, using photographic records, field observations, and analysis of visual writings found on the streets of Uberlândia, as well as documentary research on muralism in Santiago and concepts such as environmental psychology that address the sense of belonging. The results indicated that urban art functions as an instrument of social and cultural expression, strengthening bonds between individuals and the community, while also encouraging reflection on social and political issues. It is concluded that such artistic manifestations expand the perception of local identity and promote new forms of interaction and belonging in public spaces.
