Filosofia do desenvolvimento como filosofia da libertação: um ensaio sobre os pensamentos de Álvaro Vieira Pinto e Roland Corbisier

Abstract

In this thesis, I investigate the status of the philosophy of development, as formulated by the Brazilian philosophers Álvaro Vieira Pinto and Roland Corbisier, in relation to the philosophy of liberation and its key themes. I conduct a semantic analysis of the term “philosophy of development,” demonstrating that its primary meanings refer both to an intellectual movement tied to the reality of underdeveloped nations in the mid-20th century and to a philosophical paradigm advanced by Vieira Pinto and Corbisier. Crucially, I argue that the philosophy of development constitutes an autonomous philosophical discipline with an inherently liberating character. I also perform a semantic examination of the philosophy of liberation, distinguishing not only its strict sense —pertaining to the philosophical movement that emerged in Argentina in the late 1960s and early 1970s — but also its broader sense, associated with liberation-oriented thought in general, as well as its “diluso” and metaphilosophical senses. Consequently, I contend that both the philosophy of development and the philosophy of liberation can be understood as autonomous disciplines — a claim that underscores this thesis’s originality. The justification for proposing these disciplines lies in the need to confront philosophically grounded and that is coherent with the modus how they are articulated. Furthermore, I suggest a potential revaluation of Latin American and Brazilian philosophical history, positioning the philosophy of development as a significant philosophical contribution.
