Illusoria: revelando as provações da jornada do artista heroico na ilustração e história de monstros

Abstract

This work is an experimental collection of writings, poems, sketches and illustrations exploring the interplay between reality and fantasy, developed with the goal of producing an Artbook through a research project in a undergraduate thesis in Art. Through writing and illustrations that seek to produce an artistic object, the aim is to narrate experiences and events, following the structure of the hero's journey in a performative language. The purpose was to produce an Artbook illustrated with monsters symbolic of the hero's trials, culminating in an encounter with a fantastic Goddess. The project stems from a desire for personal and artistic growth, exploring the unconscious and unique repertoires in order to help the artist achieve a more fulfilling expression. Drawing on references from JRPGs such as the Persona series, anime such as Evangelion and manga such as Berserk, those that form an artistic repertoire, inspirations led back to esoteric themes such as Occultism, Hermetic Kabbalah, Alchemy and the Tarot. Based on Joseph Campbell's The Hero with a Thousand Faces, the project engages with artistic and cultural traditions surrounding the tales and trials of an inner hero. Writings by Freud, Jung, Melanie Klein and compilations by J.D. Nasio also informed discussions about the unconscious. Ultimately, the object of the Artbook has been achieved, and together with the insights and conclusions obtained, the project expects to help other artists contemplate on these productions that are centered on the Hero's journey and the artistic unconscious.
