Educar com Gaia: Aprender e entrar e relação com uma Terra/terra viva e ferida em tempos de desastres

Abstract

This work, based on an artistic proposition linked to science and biology education, moves problematizing and sensitive reflections on the relationships between human beings, non-human beings and the Earth/land, understood as a living organism, from the perspective of Gaia Theory and Multispecies Studies. In a context of climate impacts and environmental disasters, the study investigates possibilities of educating with the Earth/land by mobilizing scientific knowledge, traditional knowledge and artistic creations. The research was developed through creative practices called Gaia Work Tables, which took place in educational contexts at the Federal University of Uberlândia (UFU), Campus Pontal. At these tables, the participating artists were invited to create from triggering materials, in experiences that sought to strengthen affective bonds with the Earth/land. The objective was to promote a more sensitive education that stimulates listening, care and perception of life in multiple forms, in its intertwining between human and non-human beings. The proposal breaks with the anthropocentric logic of modern science and advocates an inter/transdisciplinary approach that recognizes the Earth/land not as a resource, but as a relative. The creations made at the Gaia Working Groups reveal a way of learning from Gaia based on the sensitive, the collective and the artistic, the poetic that entangles with the scientific and the cultural. The Earth is recognized as alive, wounded and sacred, demanding other forms of relationship and care beyond neoliberal capitalist movements. The work is, therefore, an invitation to reconnect with the territories, with the planet and with oneself, amidst climate change.
