Abstract

The aim of this paper is to present, through a clinical case study, a mixed form of psychosis, with delusions of persecution and erotomania, as well as hallucinations and bodily alterations, similar to Freud's “Schreber Case”. From a Freudian point of view, in psychosis there is a disturbance in the relationship between the “I” and the external world. The subject refuses (Verwerfung) reality, which drags the “I” away and, as a way of repairing the lost reality, an attempt at healing, creates delirium, a bandage for this torn relationship. In this context, male paranoia would be a defense against homosexual desire. The refusal to love a man turns the beloved object into his persecutor. This is psychoanalytic research, in which the clinic is taken as a privileged field for producing knowledge about the unconscious. The methodology adopted follows the foundations of psychoanalysis as a form of theoretical and clinical investigation, in which there is no separation between the subject that investigates and the object that is investigated, where listening, free association and the effects of transference are central. We present the clinical history of a paranoid subject, with the construction of his delusions of persecution and erotomania, as well as the transition from paranoia to schizophrenia in regressive moments, with hallucinations and bodily alterations. In the evolution of the treatment, it was possible to show that the patient stabilizes from the erotomania in the transference.
