| Summary: | Desde o surgimento do cinema, a Tradução Audiovisual (TAV) tem tido um papel cada vez mais relevante em nossa sociedade, ganhando novo fôlego na atual era digital. A recente guinada do consumo audiovisual através da modalidade em streaming trouxe consigo novas formas de produção e demandas específicas para os profissionais da Tradução. Prazos reduzidos e legendas traduzidas a várias mãos são comuns em gigantes do segmento, como a Netflix. Embora haja um sistema interno que possibilite essa prática, produções como a sitcom Arrested Development apresentam um desafio tradutório à parte. O elevado volume textual é composto por inúmeras running gags que, conforme descreve Pelegrini (2016), são expressões cômicas repetidas ao longo dos episódios, exigindo do expectador uma compreensão da situação cômica inicial. É uma dessas situações cômicas recorrentes o objeto de estudo deste trabalho. Todas as ocorrências da running gag e suas respectivas traduções em português brasileiro foram contrastadas para analisar como as soluções tradutórias impactaram a manutenção da situação humorística, da coerência e do entendimento das legendas. A análise revelou que a variedade de traduções encontradas acarreta uma quebra de coesão e coerência na trama, prejudicando o entendimento da situação cômica pelo espectador. |
| Abstract: | Audiovisual Translation has grown more and more relevant in society since the rise of cinema, with renewed developments in the digital age. The recent increase in audiovisual content in video streaming platforms has bred new ways of production and particular demands to professionals of Translation. Tighter deadlines and multiple translatorship are average practice in streaming giants such as Netflix. Even though an internal subtitling system exists, sitcoms such as Arrested Development are still challenging to any translator. The vast amount of written text is filled with running gags, which Pelegrini (2016) describes as comic expressions repeated throughout the episodes and therefore demanding early assimilation by the viewer. This study aims at the Portuguese translation of one of these comic expressions. All the occurrences of a running gag and its respective Portuguese subtitles were compared in order to analyze how the translations influenced the reproduction of humor as well as the coherence and cohesion. The analysis revealed that the variety of translations impacts textual coherence and cohesion which might compromise its comprehension by the viewer. |
