Abstract

The translation of dramatic texts for staging differs from other types of translation due to the specificities of its genre, the translator responsible for translating a text that will be staged needs to pay attention to a series of specific characteristics, such as sonority, rhythm, orality marks, in addition to taking into account the dramaturgy of the text, cultural issues, and reception. Another critical point to highlight is that the dramatic text will be staged, and the result will be a theatrical play with the participation of the audience, which allows the translator more freedom, which requires more responsibility and ethics from the translator. The objective of this work is to carry out a commented translation of the dramatic text for staging of the play The Best Brothers by Daniel McIvor, documenting the challenges and specificities of the text, and analyzing ethical issues that permeated the translation. Translation's own ethics concepts will be addressed: ethics of equality, ethics of difference, cultural mediation, and ethics of responsibility, the commented translation will be used to document the result of the translation. This work will also address the process of choosing the text, analysis of the author, analysis of the work, and, to a lesser extent, the interaction with the other members, the setting up of the show, and its rehearsals.
