Teoria da autodeterminação no contexto esportivo: uma análise da produção científica em língua portuguesa.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to analyze the scientific production on the Theory of Self-Determination (TSD) in the context of sports in Portuguese. To this end, searches were performed for articles, theses and dissertations in the Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences (LILACS) digital databases and in the dissertations and theses database of the Improvement Coordination of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES). Data collection was carried out in August 2021, using the descriptor “Theory of Self-Determination” and the Portuguese language selection filter. As inclusion criteria for the study, articles that analyzed and/or discussed TSD in the sports context were considered, with the publication period up to the date of July 2021. Review articles, congress abstracts, editorials and letters were not included in the study; articles or theses/dissertations that did not have the full text in full; and texts that were not in Portuguese. After selecting the articles and theses/dissertations, data referring to the year, authors (only the first and last) and their institutions, journal, title, objective, analyzed sport and information on method were extracted. Data were analyzed based on descriptive statistics of absolute (N) and relative (%) values. In total, sixty-nine articles and 109 theses/dissertations were found, and 153 studies were excluded for being duplicates or not meeting the eligibility criteria. In the end, 25 studies were selected for review. The first study found was in 2008, and the largest number of publications per year was found in 2012 (n = 5). The institution of the authors with the highest number of publications was the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) (n = 7). The most investigated sports discussing TSD were volleyball and athletics (n = 4), with the relationship between motivation, based on TSD, and the behavior of individuals being the most common objective axis. We concluded that investigations on TSD in the sport context in Portuguese language studies are still low, with a similar focus on individual and team sports.
