Preconceitos múltiplos: estereótipos, impactos sociais e psicológicos

Abstract

This study aims to identify and describe significant elements of multiple prejudices victims’s narratives. Seeking to find accounts related to the intersection of prejudices, a virtual research was conducted by crossing terms such as sexism, racism, lgbtphobia, ageism, ableism, fatphobia and others. The analysis was based on hermeneutic phenomenology, characterized as an interpretative posture that aims to capture the meaning of a person’s experiential process, considering its historical and social determinations. Two categories of analysis were developed, named respectively: multiple prejudices and the intersection of stereotypes; and multiple prejudices and its impacts on subjectivity. The narratives analyzed allowed the recognition of situations of multiple prejudices as restricting social experiences and disorganizing subjective experiences, since they deny the sense of belonging to the stigmatized subjects through recurrent experiences of humiliation. In conclusion, we recognize the need of actions that promote social and political reconfigurations in favor of minorities, allowing them experiences of dignity and citizenship.
