Abstract

Having in mind the broad market in which Private Security Companies (ESP) operate, this research is based on a discursive and strategic perspective of security, in which it understands that the industry made by these companies has transformed and expanded their services, since military devices, arms sales and policing, up until today, providing non-material knowledge, such as, obtaining and analyzing intelligence. Thus, this research has as main objective, to analyze the influence of Private Security Companies (ESP) in the construction of security understandings in the case of Colombia in 1998 and Peru in 2001. In this way, the hypothesis that was tested in this work was raised from the studies of Anna Leander, of whom, they understand that the ESP participate directly and indirectly in the safety speeches. For this, case studies were used, through the process traicing method. As well as, theoretical arguments grounded by authors from the Copenhagen school. Therefore, the dissertation resulted in the confirmation of the hypothesis, since, in the cases presented, the ESP did more than what they were contractually proposed to do, thus shaping the understanding of the agents involved in the cases
