| Title: | Associação fenotípica entre consumo alimentar residual e Marmoreio em touros jovens da raça nelore |

| Summary: | Esse trabalho objetivou estimar as associações fenotípicas entre o consumo alimentar residual e a característica de marmoreio, avaliada por ultrassonografia, em touros jovens da raça Nelore. Utilizou-se o banco de dados referente às informações de 200 touros jovens da raça Nelore, puros de origem (PO), participantes de Provas de eficiência alimentar realizadas na Vitrine Tecnológica da fazenda experimental Capim Branco da Universidade Federal de Uberlândia (UFU). Foram avaliadas as características de consumo alimentar residual (CAR) e a percentagem de gordura intramuscular ou marmoreio (MAR, %). Observou-se que a associação entre o CAR e a característica de MAR foi de baixa magnitude (0,14), indicando que a seleção de animais mais eficientes (CAR negativo) não leva à redução do marmoreio. Entretanto, o valor de probabilidade de significância (p = 7%) foi maior que 5% (coeficiente não significativo). Pode-se concluir que a seleção de animais mais eficientes, que apresentam menor consumo alimentar residual, não gera prejuízos na porcentagem de gordura intramuscular ou marmorização de carcaça em bovinos da raça Nelore. |
| Abstract: | This study intends to estimate phenotypic associations between residual feed intake and marbling, by ultrasonography in young bulls of the Nellore breed. To do so, data of 200 young bulls that participated in food efficiency tests at the experimental farm Capim Branco of the Federal University of Uberlandia (UFU) was used. Characteristics of residual feed intake (RFI) and the percentage of intramuscular fat or marbling (MAR) were evaluated. It was observed that the association between RFI and MAR had low magnitude (0.14), it indicates that selecting more efficient animals (negative RFI) does not lead to reduction of marbling. However, the value of significance probability (p) was higher than 5% (non-significant coefficient).The result of the study is that choosing animals with negative residual feed intake does not cause any damage in carcasses composition, and can be used in the selection criteria without losses in the percentage of marbling in the Nellore breed. |
