| Summary: | A bovinocultura de corte representa uma das principais atividades do agronegócio brasileiro, sendo a eficiência reprodutiva dos rebanhos um fator determinante para o aumento da produtividade e da rentabilidade. Nesse contexto, a qualidade do sêmen dos touros exerce papel fundamental no sucesso da monta natural, uma vez que influencia diretamente a taxa de prenhez. O presente estudo teve como objetivo avaliar a influência da idade, do peso corporal e da circunferência escrotal sobre a qualidade do sêmen de touros da raça Nelore PO. Foram avaliados 119 touros, com idade entre 19 a 24 meses, provenientes de uma fazenda comercial localizada no município de Ipiaçu, Minas Gerais. Durante o exame andrológico, foram obtidos dados referentes ao peso corporal, circunferência escrotal, motilidade espermática, vigor, defeitos espermáticos maiores e menores, além das características clínicas dos reprodutores. Os dados foram submetidos à análise de variância (ANOVA), adotando-se nível de significância de 5% (P < 0,05). Os resultados demonstraram que a idade influenciou significativamente o peso corporal, a circunferência escrotal, a motilidade espermática e o vigor, enquanto o peso corporal apresentou efeito apenas sobre a circunferência escrotal. Não foram observadas diferenças significativas entre os grupos classificados pela circunferência escrotal para os parâmetros da qualidade seminal. Conclui-se que, nas condições deste estudo, a idade foi o principal fator associado às características da qualidade seminal dos touros Nelore PO, enquanto o peso corporal e a circunferência escrotal não apresentaram influência significativa sobre a maioria dos parâmetros avaliados. Esses resultados reforçam a importância da avaliação conjunta dos fatores reprodutivos para a seleção de reprodutores com maior potencial reprodutivo. |
| Abstract: | Beef cattle production is one of the main sectors of Brazilian agribusiness, and reproductive efficiency is an essential factor for increasing productivity and profitability in production systems. In this context, semen quality plays a fundamental role in the success of natural breeding, directly influencing herd fertility rates. This study aimed to evaluate the influence of age, body weight, and scrotal circumference on the semen quality of purebred Nelore bulls. A total of 119 bulls, approximately 24 months of age, from a commercial farm located in the municipality of Ipiaçu, Minas Gerais, Brazil, were evaluated. During the breeding soundness examination, data were collected on body weight, scrotal circumference, sperm motility, sperm vigor, and the percentages of major and minor sperm defects. The data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA), adopting a significance level of 5% (P < 0.05). The results showed that age significantly influenced body weight, scrotal circumference, sperm motility, and sperm vigor. Body weight had a significant effect only on scrotal circumference, whereas scrotal circumference did not influence the evaluated semen quality parameters. It was concluded that, under the conditions of this study, age was the main factor associated with semen quality in purebred Nelore bulls, while body weight and scrotal circumference did not significantly affect most of the seminal characteristics evaluated. These findings reinforce the importance of the combined evaluation of reproductive parameters in the selection of bulls with greater reproductive potential. |
