A circulação afetiva do refugiado: transformações e deslocamentos diante da emergência da extrema-direita

Abstract

This article analyzes refuge from the perspective of the affective turn in International Relations. A theoretical gap is identified, as the dimension of affections is rarely explored systematically in the discipline. The objective, thus, is to investigate how the circulation of affections toward refugees has been displaced by the rise of the far right. Using interpretive, qualitative methodology and the hypothetical-deductive method based on a literature review, the results point to a shift in the affective economy of fear. Fear, previously associated with the vulnerability of refugees, is transferred to the receiving population, transforming the subject from someone who fears to someone who inspires fear. It is concluded that far-right governments instrumentalize the politics of fear and narratives of crisis, based on neoliberal rationality, to legitimize the securitization of mobility and the dehumanization of refugees in search of symbolic stability and ontological security.
