| Summary: | Statement of problem. The fatigue behavior and stress distribution of a simplified restorative protocol using self-cured resin composite for fiber post cementation, core build-up, and crown cementation remain unclear. Purpose. To evaluate the fatigue survival, failure mode, and stress distribution of endodontically treated = incisors restored using a self-cured resin composite or dual- polymerizing resin-core materials for fiber posts cementation, core build-ups, and 3D-printed resin crowns cementation. Material and methods. Sixty bovine incisors were endodontically treated and randomly assigned to 4 groups (n=15) according to the material used for fiber post cementation, core build-up, and crown cementation: Stela Automix; Clearfil DC Core Plus; Rebilda DC; and LuxaCore Z Dual. After post cementation, standardized core build-up, tooth preparation, digital scanning, and generation of 3D-printed resin crowns, the specimens were subjected to step-stress cyclic fatigue at 5 Hz, starting at 50 N and increasing by 100 N every 15 000 cycles until failure. Failure mode was assessed by transillumination and digital radiography and illustrated by scanning electron microscopy. Three-dimensional finite element models were created to evaluate modified von Mises stress distribution. Fatigue survival was analyzed with Kaplan-Meier and log-rank tests; fatigue failure load and cycles to failure were analyzed with 1-way ANOVA (α=.05). Results. No significant differences were detected among groups for fatigue failure load or cycles to failure by 1-way ANOVA (P>.05). Most failures were repairable. Stela Automix and Clearfil DC Core Plus showed only repairable failures, whereas LuxaCore Z Dual and Rebilda DC showed isolated catastrophic failures. Finite element analysis showed a similar global stress pattern among groups, with higher stress concentration in the cervical region and post/core interface. Stela Automix showed lower and more localized stress in the fiber post region. Conclusions. The self-cured resin composite and dual-polymerizing resin-core materials provided comparable fatigue failure loads and predominantly repairable failure patterns when used for post cementation, core build-up, and crown cementation. Stela Automix showed similar performance and more favorable stress distribution in the post region, suggesting potential applicability as a simplified restorative material for endodontically treated teeth. |
