Abstract: This work presents the development of a functional prototype of a wearable system for neonatal physiological monitoring in a home environment, focusing on the demonstration of real-time data acquisition and transmission. The proposed solution is based on photoplethysmography (PPG) to estimate peripheral oxygen saturation (SpO₂) and heart rate (BPM). The hardware is composed of the ESP32 microcontroller and the MAX30102 optical sensor, incorporating basic safety mechanisms such as battery thermal monitoring and a hardware lock that prevents operation during the charging process. The firmware implements signal acquisition and processing routines, including strategies to reduce interference, such as detection of lack of contact and possible motion artifacts. The collected data are transmitted via Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) to the mobile application "OxiNeonatal", which enables real-time visualization, data storage, and alert management. The tests performed were preliminary in nature, limited to functional validation of the system under controlled conditions, without clinical trials or regulatory certification. The results demonstrate the technical feasibility of the proposed architecture and the integration between hardware, firmware, and software, indicating potential for future applications, subject to further validation, regulatory compliance, and device improvement.
