O insólito caminho da ancestralidade em Conceição Evaristo

Abstract

This thesis aims to analyze how Conceição Evaristo's literary and essayistic trajectory contributes to the understanding of the unusual narratives present in the work Histórias de Leves Enganos e Parecenças (2017). It starts from the hypothesis that such narratives do not fully fit into the traditional categories of the fantastic field, such as Animist Realism or Fantastic Realism, as they incorporate Black memories and ancestries that challenge these classifications and allow for a reading more aligned with Black-Brazilian life-writing. To support this proposition, the research also analyzes the works Ponciá Vicêncio (2003), Olhos d’água (2016), and Becos da Memória (2017), seeking to demonstrate the maturation of the categories of memory and ancestry throughout the author's writing. It is thus argued that this narrative reconfiguration promotes an epistemological reorganization in the reading of Conceição Evaristo's work and expands the possibilities for understanding black-fantastic narratives in Brazil.
