Interações Familiares e Sociais Relacionadas à Ocorrência da Cárie Dentária em Crianças e Adolescentes

Abstract

Understanding the relationship between social determinants and the health-disease process has been important for the development of new approaches and interventions, considering the uniqueness of individuals and adopting a care model focused on family and community. In this context, the use of family assessment tools can strengthen communication between families and health professionals. However, the use of these tools in dentistry is still very limited. Based on the need to guide the strategic actions of dentists when treating individuals at risk for dental caries, this master's dissertation was developed with the aim of reviewing the scientific literature on family and social interactions related to the higher prevalence of dental caries in children and adolescents. Two scoping reviews were conducted one focused on children and the other on adolescents. The study protocols were registered on the Open Science Framework (respectively: 10.17605/OSF.IO/T3R69 and 10.17605/OSF.IO/Z45AR). Data were collected from seven databases. The identification, screening, and eligibility phases were carried out by two independent reviewers. Based on this research, two articles were produced as part of this master's dissertation: (1) Family interactions related to the development of dental caries in children: a scoping review; and (2) Family and social interactions related to the development of dental caries in adolescents: a scoping review. The findings of these reviews highlight the central role of social and family interactions in the development of dental caries in children and adolescents.
