A filosofia de Mary Baker Eddy: ciência, religião e construção da autonomia feminina no século XIX

Abstract

This work consists of micropolitical crossing. It is a philosophical rescue to the Brazilian academy of a thinker who, during the second half of the 19th century, in the region of New England, United States, founded the Massachusetts Metaphysical College. Mary Baker Eddy is another one of those women who is not included in the Canon and does not have her work debated at universities or during the History of Philosophy classrooms. However, she is the author of a masterpiece that moves between different areas of study, especially between Philosophy and Theology. The author presents an innovative and, indeed, controversial concept for a society based on Protestant values and Victorian morality: the motherhood of God. Eddy created his own concept of metaphysics and developed, from it, a system of mental, or spiritual, healing based on biblical writings. Her work earned her thousands of followers and made her one of the most influential and notorious women of her time. From a cartographic attitude, we move through the philosopher's becoming-woman and highlight the main aspects of her trajectory and her philosophical notes.
