Abstract

This work addresses a characteristic of Ferdinand de Saussure’s concept of language, namely, the arbitrariness of the sign, and Hans Kelsen’s conventionalism of the legal norm, highlighting convergences, divergences, and theoretical implications. The research demonstrates that both language and law can be understood as symbolic systems. In this study, we specifically examine the extent to which such systems can be compared, emphasizing the points of convergence and divergence, whose differences and interdependencies allow for a fruitful dialogue between the two fields of knowledge.
