Pagodão do ventre: Memórias e afetações entre as danças pagode baiano e dança do ventre

Abstract

This text is a reflection on the creative process behind the artistic work “Entre DUMs e TACs”, developed within the curricular components Supervised Internship and Body Practices of the Undergraduate Dance Program at the Federal University of Uberlândia (UFU). It is a memorial intended to document the development process of this artistic work, which brings together my experiences with dance, from childhood up to the present moment.The guiding question behind the creation of the artistic work was: What is the relationship between pagode baiano and belly dance? The outcome was a dance performance that explores the relationship between these two dance forms and their intersections within the feminine body of a 38 year old woman and mother. This Undergraduate Thesis aims to relate, connect, separate, and provoke - through the notions of confluence and crossroads, and from an autobiographical perspective - questions regarding the decolonial dimension of belly dance and pagode baiano, as well as reflections on feminism and ageism in dance. To this end, the main references are the research and studies of the authors Naiara Assunção (2021), Bárbara Carine (2025), Maryrluce Cerqueira (2019), Janaina Leite (2017), Djamila Ribeiro (2018), and the authors Ramon Grosfoguel (2019), Clebemilton Nascimento (2012), Jarbas Siqueira Ramos (2017), and Antônio Bispo Santos (2023). The temporalities of this writing may shift between past, present, and future, creating a memory that, while allowing for the understanding of linear time, spirals around my dance experiences and my education in the UFU Dance Program.
