| Summary: | Este trabalho investiga a estrutura argumental preferida na Língua Brasileira de Sinais (Libras), considerando seus aspectos gramaticais e discursivos a partir da perspectiva funcionalista. Com base nas teorias de Du Bois (1987, 1993), que analisou a estrutura argumental em línguas oralizadas, busca-se verificar se os mesmos padrões se aplicam à Libras, uma língua visual-espacial. Para isso, foram analisados dados do Corpus de Libras, examinando como os argumentos são organizados na sentença e sua conexão com o fluxo informacional no discurso. Os resultados apontam que, assim como ocorre em outras línguas naturais, a Libras apresenta uma estrutura argumental preferida que favorece um único argumento lexical por sentença, com preferências sintáticas e pragmáticas específicas. O estudo contribui para a compreensão da organização sintática e discursiva da Libras, auxiliando na formação de profissionais da área e na valorização da língua de sinais no contexto acadêmico e social. |
| Abstract: | This study investigates the preferred argument structure in Brazilian Sign Language (Libras), focusing on its grammatical and discursive aspects from a functionalist perspective. Based on Du Bois' theories (1987, 1993), which analyzed argument structure in spoken languages, this research aims to verify whether similar patterns apply to Libras, a visual-spatial language. Data from Corpus Libras were analyzed to examine how arguments are organized in sentences and their connection to the flow of information in discourse. The results indicate that, as in other natural languages, Libras exhibits a preferred argument structure that favors a single lexical argument per sentence, with specific syntactic and pragmatic preferences. This study contributes to the understanding of the syntactic and discursive organization of Libras, supporting the training of professionals in the field and promoting the recognition of sign language in academic and social contexts. |
