Baú de escaparate: contos e imagens

Abstract

This memorial aims to produce an artist's book that illustrates the tales written by the artist's mother while they were experiencing immigration in Europe, bringing a historical and personal character in which the recollection of these moments begins to be reflected in the work. The anthology named Escaparate (2005-2008), by Sofia Baú, brings together 231 short stories that portray the presence of the unknown in her daily life. Twenty short stories were selected for the production of 20 illustrations, creating a playful and, at the same time, autobiographical narrative, in which the historical and personal contexts are translated through the subjectivity of two worlds: the real and the fictional. Then, literary elements of magical realism and the artist's emotional relationship with books are studied, in addition to the reunion between what was experienced and the memories of a child. Thus, the memorialistic path encompasses a subjective approach in this fusion of memories between mother and daughter, writer and illustrator, whether in literary or artistic form.
