| Summary: | O Sistema Monetário Internacional está sob a égide do dólar desde 1945, permitindo aos Estados Unidos usufruir de um privilégios macroeconômicos de maneira exorbitante. Porém, crises no capitalismo, sobretudo a de 2008, abalaram a confiança internacional na moeda, tornando frequentes os debates acerca de seu abandono como padrão monetário internacional. Neste sentido, o BRICS ganha notoriedade ao incentivar a procura por alternativas ao atual ordenamento financeiro global por meio do uso de novas moedas, tecnologias de pagamento e instituições bancárias. Sua expansão em janeiro de 2024 ressignifica a importância do grupo para a discussão, visto que se aumenta a possibilidade dele realizar mudanças significativas no cenário financeiro internacional. Este trabalho, portanto, utiliza de análises bibliografias, de documentos e de notícias para investigar se há queda na hegemonia do dólar por meio da atuação do BRICS, em especial após sua recente expansão. O estudo mostra que o dólar encontra-se em derrocada, porém as alternativas existentes a seu uso ainda não possuem capacidade de desbancá-lo totalmente. |
| Abstract: | The International Monetary System has been under the aegis of the dollar since 1945, allowing the United States to enjoy exorbitant macroeconomic privileges. However, crises in capitalism, especially that of 2008, have shaken international confidence in the currency, leading to frequent debates about its abandonment as the international monetary standard. In this sense, BRICS is gaining notoriety by encouraging the search for alternatives to the current global financial order through the use of new monetary units, payment technologies and banking institutions. Its expansion in January 2024 re-signifies the importance of the group for discussion, as it increases the possibility of making significant changes to the international financial scenario. This paper, therefore, uses bibliographic, document and news analysis to investigate whether the dollar's hegemony is declining as a result of the BRICS' actions, especially after its recent expansion. The study shows that the dollar is collapsing, but the existing alternatives to its use do not yet have the capacity to completely overthrow it. |
