A jornada psicológico-simbólica de Shinji Ikari: Uma análise do mangá “Neon Genesis Evangelion” à luz da Psicologia Analítica de Carl Gustav Jung

Abstract

The anime “Neon Genesis Evangelion”, produced by studio Gainax and directed by Hideaki Anno, is recognized as an influential work in Japanese and global pop culture. Its manga version was launched in 1994 by Yoshiyuki Sadamoto, character designer, who also worked on the anime's production. Every artistic expression, especially literature, can profoundly impact the lives of those who consume it. By exploring universal archetypes, literature reflects real aspects and invites readers to search for meaning. This study proposes a psychological analysis of the manga "Neon Genesis Evangelion" from the perspective of Carl Gustav Jung's Analytical Psychology, highlighting the archetypes and manifestations of the collective unconscious present in the work. For analysis, the method developed by Marie-Louise von Franz was used to interpret this literary form, with the aim of exploring the psychological-symbolic content present in the work. The process of individuation, central to Carl Gustav Jung's Analytical Psychology, refers to the psychological development of each individual. This process, composed of some phases, aims to integrate the conscious and unconscious aspects of the psyche, with the aim of achieving a state of psychological wholeness. Thus, by exploring Shinji Ikari's psychological journey, this study was able to highlight the influences of the collective unconscious, and the impact of symbolic elements on the individuation process.
