A abordagem humanizada do assistente social no atendimento de pacientes oncológicos em cuidados paliativos: relato de experiência

Abstract

The present Residency Completion Project (TCR) aims to analyze the role of the social worker resident in providing care to oncology patients under palliative care in the inpatient unit of the Federal University of Uberlândia Clinics Hospital (HC/UFU), a high- complexity hospital. The study focuses on oncology patients in palliative care, considering the specificity of their demands and the relevance of a humanized and integrated approach with the multidisciplinary team. This focus highlights how humanization, combined with collaboration among healthcare professionals, can improve treatment management and address the needs of patients and their families. Reception is presented as the initial and essential step in this approach, enabling the identification of the family reality and contributing to the realization of social rights, emphasizing the complexity of the challenges faced by the social worker. The experience report, along with the analysis of scientific articles and practical experience in the oncology sector, reinforces the importance of humanization and multidisciplinary work in palliative care, showing that patients treated with this approach experience greater well-being and satisfaction with their treatment. It is concluded that the health residency offers a unique opportunity for the development of practical and theoretical competencies essential to addressing the challenges of oncology palliative care. The experience gained prepares the social worker to promote a practice grounded in humanization, interdisciplinarity, and the realization of rights. The chosen focus for the study is justified by the specificity and complexity of the demands of oncology patients in palliative care, which require specialized interventions and a focused perspective.
