Procedimento Operacional Padrão: Fluxo de atendimento aos pacientes da Oncologia pela equipe de Odontologia Hospitalar do Hospital Odontológico e Hospital de Clínicas da UFU

Abstract

The Oncology Sector of the Clinical Hospital (SEO-HCUFU) and the Specific Care Program for Stomatological Diseases of the Dental Hospital (PROCEDE-HOUFU), both from the Federal University of Uberlândia, are reference centers in the Triângulo Mineiro region for the dental care of oncology patients. Given the increased demand and the need for specialized dental care, it is imperative to standardize dental practices through a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). This project aimed to develop a SOP for HC-UFU/EBSERH and PROCEDE-HOUFU, standardizing the flow of care for Oncology patients. The document was created based on a review of current literature, consultation with specialists and discussions with the Hospital Dentistry team. The SOP presented details on specific dental care for patients in five groups: (1) Head and Neck Radiotherapy; (2) Radiotherapy in Other Regions; (3) Chemotherapy; (4) Autologous Bone Marrow Transplantation; and (5) Antiresorptive and Antiangiogenic Medications. This study addressed relevant points for the alignment of the Hospital Dentistry team and residents in relation to the care of oncology patients, which may optimize the specialized dental service offered to these patients and directly benefit their oral and systemic health, in addition to their well-being.
