A Evolução do Setor Farmacêutico Brasileiro no Período de 2003 a 2017

Abstract

The Brazilian pharmaceutical sector plays a strategic role in both the economy and public health, demonstrating significance in job creation and the promotion of well-being. This study analyzes the sector's evolution in Brazil between 2003 and 2017, focusing on its structure, innovative performance, and industrial policies. The research spans an analysis of the value chain, dependent on imported inputs, and the challenges of technological and productive integration. Policies such as the Program for Supporting the Development of the Pharmaceutical Productive Chain (PROFARMA), the Productive Development Partnerships (PDPs), and the Greater Brazil Plan are explored, aiming to reduce external dependency and strengthen the national industry. The results reveal progress, such as increased national production of medicines and the reinforcement of public policies, but also highlight persistent challenges, such as the low participation in high-impact innovation. The analysis is based on secondary data from the IBGE and the Center for Management and Strategic Studies (CGEE), in addition to indicators such as net sales revenue, expenditures on research and development (R&D), and employment in the sector.
