Mulheres e construção do direito à cidade: uma análise a partir do cotidiano de moradoras da periferia pobre de Ituiutaba- MG

Abstract

Considering that urban space is unequal and fragmented, it becomes necessary to analyze the multiple ways in which the inequalities experienced by women hinder their full access to the city as a whole, especially when it comes to poor and peripheral women. Thus, we consider that these women's daily lives are marked by a series of obstacles to the construction of the right to the city. This is because the process of socio- spatial fragmentation weakens social ties and increases the isolation of these women when we consider five fundamental dimensions of their daily lives: housing, work, consumption, leisure, and mobility. Therefore, based on a qualitative research study based on fieldwork, specifically interviews with women living in poor neighborhoods on the outskirts of Ituiutaba, it was possible to grasp their spatial practices and understand to what extent their lives are permeated by the process of socio-spatial fragmentation. It was possible to understand that the daily lives of the interviewees are largely dedicated to the work dimension, both paid and unpaid - referring to household and childcare. Non-work time is spent mostly at home, indicating the centrality of the housing dimension for these women, who divide their daily lives between home and work. This concentration shortens the other daily dimensions, limiting the appropriation of the city as a whole, such as during leisure or consumption moments, for example. Thus, we consider that the living conditions of these women constitute barriers to the construction of the right to the city since they experience Ituiutaba in a fragmented manner.
