Abstract

The present undergraduate thesis aims to provide an analysis of the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) in relation to international project management. Initially, relevant aspects of the United Nations (UN) are addressed, including its overall panorama and post-war history, Official Development Assistance, and the formulation of the tripartite model. Subsequently, an introductory exposition is conducted on the role of the Joint Inspection Unit of the United Nations System (JIU), providing an initial understanding of the necessity and importance of this entity within the context of UNOPS. Following this initial overview, a detailed explanation of UNOPS is presented, encompassing its history, mandate, objectives, mission, structure, and services provided. Furthermore, after comprehending the essence of UNOPS, the examination focuses on the role of project management in the international arena and its projection. Finally, reflections are made to highlight the role of UNOPS in relation to the UN, its specificities, and its connection to specific aspects of international project management. Moreover, this study seeks to provide an initial comprehensive overview of the topic for future research in the field.
