Atuação enquanto psicóloga residente com pacientes internados com leucemia aguda: relato de experiência

Abstract

Cancer is the name given to a group of more than 100 diseases, which have in common the disordered growth of cells. One of the types of cancer is acute leukemia, which occurs when there is an excess of white blood cells in the blood. Regardless of the type of cancer, this is a disease that represents a challenge, being closely associated with pain, suffering and death. Cancer illness and treatment cause important emotional reactions in the patient and their families. In this scenario, the work of the psychologist is essential, with the multidisciplinary residency being an opportunity for the psychologist to work in the health context with cancer patients. The objective of this study is to report on the experience of a psychologist resident in oncology, working with patients hospitalized with acute leukemia, highlighting the role of multidisciplinary residency for professional training. It is understood that patients and family members experience different feelings when faced with the disease and treatment, using coping strategies such as social support and spirituality. The importance of psychological interventions in Psycho-Oncology is highlighted, and the need for multidisciplinary teamwork. The multidisciplinary health residency is an important instrument for professional training and qualification to work in the Unified Health System (SUS). The present work highlights the work of psychologists in oncology, highlighting the relevance of this professional in the team. It is necessary to encourage research on the topic, contributing to scientific production and benefiting health professionals and users of health services.
