De tema a colaboradoras do jornal: as mulheres nas páginas do semanário o comício (1952)

Abstract

The weekly O Comício was an independent periodical published from May to October 1952 in the city of Rio de Janeiro. Its board of directors included figures such as Rubem Braga, Joel Silveira and Rafael Côrrea de Oliveira, all prominent names in the Brazilian press and literature at the time. Alongside them were collaborators such as Millôr Fernandes, Fernando Sabino, Clarice Lispector and Hilde Weber, who were responsible for producing different content for the newspaper. The aim of this paper is to analyze the presence of women in O Comício, in order to understand the roles assigned to women in this periodical. Sometimes they were the subjects of the columns published in the newspaper, but at other times they were contributors, producing their own view of the social roles of women in 1952 in Brazil. The aim is also to investigate the differences in the discourses produced about women when the texts were written by male or female figures. To this end, we analyzed the newspaper, emphasizing both Millôr Fernandes' caricatures and the section entitled "A Aventura do Cotidiano" by Fernando Sabino. As a counterpoint to the views of the newspaper's male contributors, we analyzed the chronicles in the "Entre Mulheres" column, written by Clarice Lispector and later by Elsie Lessa, as well as the illustrations by Hilde Weber and the articles written by female contributors.
