Metamorfose: um percurso autobiográfico em pintura e poesia

Abstract

This research in Visual Arts is a final work carried out in painting and poetry, which had as its objective the plastic production entitled Metamorfose, composed of three series of paintings, as well as a poetic book. It is a self-representative and autobiographical production that was born after an experience of facial surgery and that is based on the concept of metamorphosis to reflect identity, the experience of transformation and pain. This concept is worked through the creation of a hybrid of woman and cicada, called Cicada Woman, which is presented in the compositions and in the poetic writing as a fable-image of the transformed self. The production then develops in conjunction with the theoretical research, bringing reflections on the way in which we experience our identities and evidencing a current need to think of the self as an open concept in constant transformation. The research is based on a study of metamorphosis from a poetic perspective, using literature as a basis for analysis. It is also based on the investigation of identity and gender as studied by philosophy and feminist theory. That said, the work promotes a reflection on the personal experience with the transformative process of surgery, thus breaking with fixed notions of identity and gender and weaving their conditions as permanently changing concepts.
