O espetáculo da bola: ciência, trabalho e política nas páginas do Jornal dos Sports (1930-1934).

Abstract

This work deals with a discussion about the ball game, focusing on the intersection of themes: science, work and politics, issues that permeate football since the arrival of this sport in Brazil. The research carried out is located in the period from 1930 to 1934, when sport is finally professionalized in the country, and considered one of the few alternatives to modernize and make the physique and mind of the Brazilian people moral. It is a study that uses and analyzes the press of the time, Jornal dos Sports was one of the main periodicals that circulated in the country during the search for the regulation of football as a profession. This event was marked by the first years of the government of Getúlio Vargas, during the Provisional Government. Furthermore, it is a newspaper that aimed at the modernization of sport, the nation and citizens, therefore, it used techniques and resources such as photographs, which will be fundamental for the debates proposed in this work. Finally, this research considers issues such as race, class and gender and raises hypotheses from the social and political daily life during the years 1930 to 1934.
