Heterogeneidade estrutural na indústria de transformação brasileira no período de 1996 a 2018

Abstract

This paper discusses the structural heterogeneity of the Brazilian manufacturing industry based on the analysis of the evolution of labor productivity, considering the size and time of existence of companies in the period from 1996 to 2006, in order to compare this period with that from 2007 to 2016. studied by Botelho et al. (2021). The procedural methods used was historical and comparative, and the data was obtained in a special tabulation of the Pesquisa Industrial Anual Empresa (PIA/Empresa) and the Cadastro Central de Empresas (CEMPRE), both colleted by the IBGE, the Brazilian official statistics department. Based on the results found, high intrasectoral heterogeneity was demonstrated, since large companies, in general, have higher productivity than small companies. However, it is not possible to generalize that as age increases, productivity also increases. Nor can it be said that larger companies have greater productivity gains throughout the analyzed period and in the breakdowns performed. By considering a broad period of analysis and by bringing up issues of size and age of companies, it is understood that this work contributes to the expansion of knowledge about the structural heterogeneity of Brazilian industry.
