Efeito da laserterapia com duplo comprimento de onda sobre o tratamento da periodontite experimental em animais normo-hiperglicêmicos

Abstract

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of low intensity laser therapy (LLLT) with infrared and red-light wavelength on the periodontal repair after treatment of experimental periodontitis induced in normo- and hyperglycemic rats by μCT analysis. Thirty-two rats were randomly allocated in 4 groups of 8 animals each according to the systemic condition and the type of treatment that the animals were submitted: CTR-N: Normoglycemic animals without LLLT; IR/RL-N: Normoglycemic animals treated by LLLT; CTR-H: Hyperglycemic animals without LLLT; IRL/RL-H: Hyperglycemic animals treated by LLLT. Periodontitis was induced by installing a ligature around the upper second molar that was held in place for 7 days. The application of LLLT occurred on the day of the ligature removal. The animals were euthanized after 7 days of this treatment. The distance from the enamel-cement junction to the top of the crestal bone (ECJ-CB), the bone volume around the upper second molar (BV/TV%), and the microstructure of the bone tissue (thickness, space and number of trabeculae - Tb.Th; Tb.Sp and Tb.N) was assessed. The animals in the CTR H group showed higher ECJ-CB (p <0.05), lower BV/TV% (p <0.05), less Tb.N (p <0.05), and higher Tb.Sp (p <0.05) than all other groups. In addition, animals in the CTR H group had lower Tb.Th than the R-IRL H group (p <0.05). It can be concluded that hyperglycemic animals are more likely to develop more severe periodontal disease. However, the treatment of experimental periodontitis with LLLT with red and infrared light equalized periodontal repair and bone structure in normo- and hyperglycemic animals.
