Abstract

This work resulted from a qualitative research, inspired by the psychoanalytic method, whose objective was to investigate the experiences of women who attenda Human Milk Bank with their support network in breastfeeding and mothering. Interviews were conducted based on initial questions about the support networks for breastfeeding and mothering of five womenmothers, over 18 years old, users of the Human Milk Bank. The interviews were transcribed as narratives and in their analyzes, theoretical and technical psychoanalytic concepts were used, such as: the unconscious, the transference and the free-floating attention. As a result of this research, four categories stood out, which were most addressed by the interviewees. They are: a) present and facilitating support network; b) invasive support network; c) absent and / or scarce support network; d) dysfunctional support network. In the discussion, it was highlighted that depending on the characteristics of the support network, there was censureand even distancing from the mother of her baby, however when the support network assisted and offered resources to the mother, she felt safer to breastfeed and to mother. Motherhood and breastfeeding raise various feelings and emotions in the women-mother, some of them ambiguous, transforming her in an intense way, demanding a lot from the woman. The baby and the mother are a unit, and in order to care for a baby, it is first necessary to take care of the mother.
