Hemangiossarcoma primário uveal em cão - relato de caso

Abstract

Ocular neoplasms are uncommon in veterinary routine when compared to other pathologies found in domestic species. Recently several studies have reported cases of this type of pathology with various histological characteristics. In the eyeball, we identified several structures, among them: sclera, cornea, uvea, retina and optic nerve, and its main attachments are: eyelids, conjunctiva, third eyelid and lacrimal apparatus. The uveal tract is composed of iris, ciliary body and coronoid. Among the neoplasms most commonly found in this region, either in the anterior portion or in the ciliary body, we have adenoma and adenocarcinoma and we frequently observe cases of melanoma. Neoplasms of primary character are not easily diagnosed in the eyeball, being more common those classified as metastatic, that is, secondary. The hemangiosarcoma is a mesenchymal neoplasm originating in the vascular endothelium, it has a high metastatic capacity and is thus characterized as aggressive to the animal. With this work we aim to report a rare case of primary hemangiosarcoma in the uveal tract found in a bitch that was rescued, with no defined race, weighing 9.2 kg and with approximately 4 years of age. Four months after the definitive diagnosis, the patient returned with a complaint of increased volume in the left inguinal breast, and hemangiosarcoma was also confirmed. Treatment with metronomic chemotherapy after unilateral radical mastectomy was instituted. With 3 months of treatment the animal died.
