Jornalistas e cientistas: um olhar etnográfico sobre os ritos de interação na Divisão de Divulgação Científica da Universidade Federal de Uberlândia

Abstract

The present course conclusion paper started with questions about "how do differences between professional cultures come to be negotiated in the interaction between journalists and scientists during the production processes of the contents of Scientific Journalism and Science Communication". To answer this question, we invested in a theoretical-methodological effort based on Symbolic Interactionism and ethnographic perspective. The field study was carried out at the Science Communication Division of the Federal University of Uberlândia - UFU, which is part of the Communication Directorate of UFU. The interests of this research were: to observe the processes of making journalistic products in the Sector, to understand how the interaction between journalists and scientists takes place in this process, to know the routine of journalistic production about sciences, to understand what are the types of relationships and interactions that happen in the daily life, as well as point out how relationships and interactions interfere in the productive processes about science in the Division. Thus, the findings of this study reinforce the importance of information sources, in this case scientists, for the production of Scientific Journalism. The Sector cultivates a good relationship between journalists and scientists, always seeking to maintain face-to-face contact with scientists, which allows them to negotiate interests, exchange and access information more efficiently and in depth.
