Educação e etnografia : a experiência do Museu do índio Universidade Federal de Uberlândia (1987-2000)

Abstract

This work intends to reconstruct the trajectory of the Indian Museum of the Federal University of Uberlândia, from 1987-2000, highlighting its educational action, particularly the Museum School Program. Composed of activities, projects and courses, this proposal seeks to change a sometimes distorted conception of reality, namely: the way teachers and students understand the Brazilian indigenous issue. These actions do not seem to have gone unnoticed. However, it is the objective of this dissertation to identify if there was any impact, however small, especially with the elementary school teachers. In other words, the Museum has been trying to provoke a reflection and a change of mentality about the indigenous populations. In this sense, it is interesting to understand if this transformation happened in fact. The interface with Ethnography and Museology is fundamental in this work. Firstly, by situating the indigenous question, seen by anthropology, and disseminated by the Indian Museum. Therefore, dialoguing and opposing the traditional view present in the school environment of the period. Secondly, it is relevant to bring the context of museology and museums in general, whose approach seeks to identify the theoretical bases and conceptual references of the Indian Museum. The survey and analysis of documentary sources is supported by existing documentation at the Indian Museum. In addition, I use photographs and bibliographic material, also belonging to this collection.
