Avaliação da toxicidade do extrato bruto Etanólico da Aristolochia Cymbifera Mart. & Zucc. em rato

Abstract

In Aristholochia cymbifera it is a cerrado plant used for several diseases and, in a research from the Federal University of Uberlândia, demonstrated an important neuroprotective effect. Our research group decided to test the raw extract of this plant in the peripheral nervous regeneration. However, this species contains substances known to be toxic to the body known as arylocutic acids. The aim of this study was to investigate the toxicity of the crude ethanolic extract of A. cymbifera in neural cells and also to analyze histopathologically important organs in the process of detoxification and elimination of harmful agents such as kidney and liver. Also, to analyze the possible tissue involvement of the nervous tissue itself, in this case, the spinal cord. We intend to answer whether the medicinal use of the crude ethanolic extract of A. cymbifera can be considered safe. The results of this study evidenced astrocyte cell death only in an overdose of A. cymbifera crude ethanolic extract, and also no damage was detected in the tissues analyzed that showed some toxicity in the kidney and liver in the use of the oral extract of the plant for the period of two months.
