Aplicação da escala de Rosenberg para avaliação da autoestima de mulheres submetidas à cirurgia oncológica mamária

Abstract

Objective: to evaluate the self-esteem of women submitted to the surgical approach as a treatment for breast cancer. Method: descriptive, correlational, cross-sectional, quantitative study with 27 patients undergoing oncological treatment in a public hospital in the state of Minas Gerais; to obtain the data, we used the Rosenberg Self-esteem Scale, a questionnaire with sociodemographic and clinical questions and a questionnaire. Results: the predominant type of surgery differed from other studies; the time from diagnosis to surgery was not considered in any other study; we found a statistically significant correlation between self-esteem and the time between diagnosis and surgery. Conclusion: the shorter the time the patient waited to undergo surgery after diagnosis, the greater her self-esteem; there is a need for further studies about the impact of the woman's trajectory until the surgical treatment in psychosocial dimensions, which includes self-esteem.
