Brasil e Argentina: uma análise comparativa das políticas externas nos governos de Vargas e Perón em relação aos EUA (1951-1955)

Abstract

The bilateral relations between Brazil and Argentina constitute one of the main points that define international relations in South America. These relationships have gone through moments of detachment and conflict over time. During the governments of Getúlio Vargas (1951-1954) and Juan Domingo Perón (1952-1955), the foreign policy actions of the two, despite certain similarities, were largely different due to a number of factors, including the internal and external scenario. Brazil, since the beginning of the Republic in 1889, has tightened its ties with the United States, unlike Argentina, which, because of its more prominent approach to England, has always opposed US hegemonic initiatives on the continent. The post-1945 international scenario and the prominence of the East / West conflict changed US foreign policy towards Latin America, and with it Vargas and Perón had to find a way to bargain better conditions for their industrial development processes and to remain autonomous. The understanding of the foreign policy between Brazil and Argentina has as main interest to understand the relation with the United States and how this ended up influencing a possible approximation between Vargas and Perón during the decade of 1950.
