Artistas indígenas na arte contemporânea brasileira

Abstract

The present Final Project focuses on the production of indigenous (or of indigenous origins) visual artists in Brazilian contemporaneity, contextualizing socially and culturally this production and relating it to the production of non-indigenous artists who use indigenous themes, identifying the differences, approximations and appropriations existing between these different scopes. The interest in this subject was due to the questioning that the studies of the indigenous arts are generally oriented towards a more ethnographic rather than aesthetic perspective of their objects and rituals, and that the various indigenous peoples and their arts are not frozen in the time, but analogously to the Western artistic and cultural manifestations, are in constant transformation, with the greater participation of indigenous artists in the field of contemporary art allowing an exchange of experiences extremely beneficial for education, for the field of art and to the respect of cultural diversity in Brazil and in the world.
